Bonavista Cured Pork Recalled for Lack of Inspection

Bonavista Foods Inc. of Ovid, NY is recalling approximately 4,338 pounds of cured pork products because they were not presented at the border for inspection, according to the  U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The possibility of adverse health consequences exists when products are not inspected.

Recall SignageThe cured pork items were imported on Nov. 17, 2015. They were packed in combination bins marked “GRAS DE DOS DE PORC SALE sel ajoute CURED PORK FATBACK salt added PRODUCT IF U.S.A./PRODUIT DES E.U.A.” with a packaging date of Nov. 30, 2015, and package code 306.  And in 50-lb. boxes marked “CURED PORK FATBACK PRODUCT OF THE U.S.A” with a packaging date of Nov. 27, 2015. The code “Est. 17978” appears inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a warehouse and retail locations in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Canada.

At the time of the recall, there had been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
