E. coli Prompts Lombardi Beef Recall

Lombardi Brothers Meats of Denver is recalling approximately 26,975 pounds of tenderized steak and ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported, but consumers who have purchased this meat should not eat it as E.coli can cause serious, sometimes fatal, illness.

lombardi-beef-ecoli-recallThe recalled products, packaged with generic labeling, were produced between June 12 and June 30, 2015 and have the establishment number “EST. 772” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming for hotel, restaurant and institutional use.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The symptoms usually develop within two to eight days of exposure and last about a week. Some people can develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Children under 5 and older adults are at highest risk for HUS which is marked by easy bruising, pallor and decreased urine output. Anyone with these symptoms needs immediate medical care.
