Ecola Canned Salmon and Tuna recalled for Botulism Risk

ECOLA Seafoods Inc. of Cannon Beach, Oregon is recalling all canned salmon and tuna with any code starting with “OC” because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium that causes botulism. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as botulism can cause life-threatening illness or death.

Food that is contaminated with botulism ecola-tuna-slamon-recallmay not smell or look spoiled. Symptoms of botulism include general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing.  Difficulty in breathing, muscle weakness or abdominal distension may also occur. Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor immediately.

The products were distributed to consumers in Oregon through September. They were packaged in metal cans with net weight 7.5 oz. They include Albacore Tuna, Smoked Albacore Tuna, Coho Salmon, Smoked Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon, and Smoked Chinook Salmon.
