Edgewood Locker Recalls Beef Sticks for Listeria

The Edgewood Locker in Iowa recalled 207 pounds of beef sticks with cheese because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

RecallFPBThe recalled product was sold from Edgewood Locker in Edgewood, Iowa or Greenwood Grocery in Farley, Iowa. The beef sticks have a lot number of 348. They were packaged in 8 ounce or 2 pound package sizes on December 15, 2015.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then wash your hands carefully with soap and water. You will need to clean the refrigerator or any place the product was stored with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of this recalled product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria food poisoning, which include high fever, stiff neck, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, headache, and nausea, for the next 70 days. Pregnant women must be especially careful about this illness, since listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth, even if the women is only mildly sick. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell him you ate this recalled product.
