Foods Recalled in Michigan for Possible Botulism

Several types of canned foods are being recalled in Michigan for possible botulism contamination. Lock Stock and Barrel Ranch products, sold at the store at 20420 State Street in Onaway, Michigan were manufactured without using controls for the safe production of processed foods, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. These foods were also sold at different farmers markets in Michigan, at Rogers City, Posen, Indian River, and Gaylord.

RecallThe recalled products include Beef Vegetable Soup, Tomato Basil Soup, Bacon Cauliflower Soup, Mama Splans Medium Salsa, Mama Splans Hot Salsa, Sweet Salsa, Tomatillo Salsa, Mango Salsa, Peach Salsa, Dilly Beans, Pickled Beets, Pickled Carrots, Pickled Mushrooms, Pickled Asparagus, Pickled Cauliflower, Pickled Garlic, Bread & Butter Pickles, Sweet & Hot Pickles, Dill Pickles, Dill Relish, Bloody Mary Mix, and Spaghetti Sauce. These products were all sold in glass jars, in sizes ranging from 8 to 32 ounces.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products. Botulism can cause serious illness and death. Only a tiny amount of the toxin produced by the botulism spores can kill.

The symptoms of botulism poisoning include dizziness, double vision, general weakness, difficult breathing, trouble speaking, difficulty swallowing, weakness of muscles, and abdominal distention. If anyone consumed any of the recalled products and has experienced these symptoms, see a doctor immediately.

If you purchased any of these products, throw them away in a double bagged container so other people and animals can’t eat them. Or you can return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
