Good Seed Recalls Sprouts for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes

Good Seed Inc. of Springfield, Virginia is recalling all packages of soybean sprouts and mung bean sprouts because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. There is no word on whether or not any illnesses have been reported to date.

The recalled items are 1-pound bags of soybean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled “GOODSEED Soy Bean Sprouts” “Keep Refrigerated” with a UPC Code of “21111 10035” produced on or after April 1, 2015. Also recalled are 2-pound bags of soybean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled “GOODSEED Soy Bean Sprouts” “Keep Refrigerated” with a UPC Code of “21112 58772” produced on or after April 1, 2015.

Bean Sprouts CloseupTen-pound bags of soybean sprouts in black plastic bags labeled with a sticker “GOODSEED Soy Bean Sprouts” produced on or after April 1, 2015 are recalled, along with 1-pound bags of mung bean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled “GOODSEED Mung Bean Sprouts” “Keep Refrigerated” with a UPC code of “21111 20136” produced on or after April 1, 2015.

Two-pound bags of mung bean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled “GOODSEED Mung Bean Sprouts” “Keep Refrigerated” with a UPC code of “21111 25871” produced on or after April 1, 2015 are recalled. And finally, 10-pound bags of mung bean sprouts in clear plastic bags labeled with a sticker “GOODSEED Mung Bean Sprouts” produced on or after April 1, 2015 are recalled. These items were distributed to retail stores in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and North Carolina.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include fever, neck stiffness, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women who ate these products should contact their doctor for advice; listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirth.
