In Canada, Mushroom Recall for Listeria Updated

The food recall warning issued on June 7, 2015 in Canada for mushrooms for Listeria monocytogenes contamination has been updated to include additional product information. Champ’s Mushrooms is recalling sliced mushroom products.

The products are Champ’s Mushrooms Sliced Crimini Mushrooms in 200 gram packages. The code on the product is 160 S4189 and the UPC number isĀ 6 78286 99933 4. Also recalled is Champ’s Mushrooms Sliced Crimini Mushrooms in 227 gram packages with code 2015 JN 18 and UPC number 6 78286 88877 5. Finally, President’s Choice Cremini Sliced Mushrooms in 454 gram packages with code 2015 JN 18 are recalled; that UPC number is 0 60383 05940 8. They were sold in British Columbia and may have been sold nationally. You can see pictures of product labels at the CFIA web site.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container, then wash your hands with soap and water and clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the signs of a Listeria infection for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women may suffer miscarriage and stillbirth even though they only are mildly ill. If you do get sick, see your doctor. No illnesses have been reported to date.
