Linked to Salmonella Outbreak, Osamu Recalls Yellowfin Tuna

AFC-tuna-salmonellaAfter being linked to an 11-state Salmonella outbreak that has sickened 60 people, Osamu Corporation of Gardena, CA is recalling frozen yellowfin tuna chunk meat  processed in Indonesia. The product was distributed to grocery stores, restaurants and institutional kitchens nationwide. The product was also sold to AFC Corporation of Rancho Dominquez, CA which operates sushi counters in grocery stores.

Officials from the Minnesota Department of Health have linked two illnesses in that state to AFC tuna. Consumers concerned about whether the sushi they purchased from a grocery store sushi counter contained the recalled tuna product should check with the store where they made the purchase.
The recalled product sold in clear packages marked Frozen Tuna Yellow Fin Chunk Meat (Lot #68568). It was shipped to AFC from May 20 to May 26, 2015.  AFC used the prouct to make spicy tuna rolls and other sushi. It has removed the product from its locations.

Salmonella can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors, pregnant women and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
