Los Corrales Pork Carnitas Suspect in Kenosha Salmonella Outbeak

Pork carnitas from Los Corrales grocery store in Kenosha, Wis. are suspected in Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 20 people, according to a report by WISN news.  Small children were among those who became so ill they were hospitalized.

SalmonellaSome of those who were sickened reported buying and eating pork carnitas on Mother’s Day, May 10, before they became seriously ill. The Kenosha County Health Department is working with the Wisconsin Department of Health on the outbreak. The meat counter at the store has been closed for an indefinite period of time while the investigation continues.

Salmonella poisoning causes vomiting and diarrhea that can be bloody. Symtoms, which usually appear between six and 72 hours after exposure can last for a week. A small percentage of invasive cases, where the infection travels to the bloodstream, can be life-threatening.
