Maggi Brand Noodle Products Warning in Canada for Lead

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is aware of the incident in India involving Maggi brand noodles. Lead was found in the product, so Nestle removed the products from the Indian marketplace.

Recall SignageThe CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, because Maggi brand noodle products are imported into Canada by different firms. If any products are found to contain lead, a recall warning will be issued.

Ingesting lead can lead to serious health problems, especially in children. Lead poisoning can cause damage to the brain, central nervous system, liver, and kidney. It can also cause behavioral problems, anemia, hearing loss, developmental delays, and, in extreme cases, death.

Short term overexposure to lead can cause abdominal pain, constipation, headache, loss of appetite, pain or tingling in the hands and/or feet, weakness, memory loss, and irritability. Lead can cross the placental barrier, which means that the fetus can be exposed. Lead exposure can also cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility.
