Nature’s Promise Edamame Recalled for Undeclared Soy

The Stop & Shop, Giant Food, and Martin’s Food Markets are recalling Nature’s Promise Organic Edamame (soybeans) because they contain undeclared soy, one of the major food allergens. Anyone who is allergic to soy could have a serious reaction if they eat this product. No reactions have been reported to date.

The recalled product is Nature’s Promise Organic Shelled Edamame in 16 ounces packages with UPC number 68826712764. Also recalled is Nature’s Promise Organic Edamame in Pod in 16 ounce packages, with UPC number 68826702124.

Stop & Shop has 395 stores  in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and New Jersey. Giant Foods is in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Giant/Martin’s is in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

If you purchased these items and are allergic to soy, do not eat it. Discard, return the package to the place of purchase for a full refund, or return the receipt to the store for a refund. The products are safe to consume for those who are not allergic to soy.

Symptoms of allergic reactions include hives, flushed skin or rash, tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth, swelling of face, tongue, or lips, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, dizziness, and coughing. Allergic reactions can proceed to anaphylactic shock in some people. If you experience these symptoms, see a doctor.
