Papillon Roquefort Cheese Recalled in Canada for Staphylococcus

Saputo Inc. is recalling Papillon brand Roquefort cheese because it may contain the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The recalled items are Papillon Roquefort sold in 100 gram packages. All codes up to and including Best Before: 2015/SE/15 are recalled. The UPC number is 3 177890 001008. The second recalled item is Papillon Roquefort cheese in variable sizes. The half wheel sizes are about 1.375 kg. All codes up to and including Best Before: 2015.09.15 are recalled. The UPC numbers for these products starts with 2 999231 0. This product may have been sold in smaller packages, cut and wrapped by some retailers. Contact the place of purchase to see if you purchased this recalled product if you are not sure. It was sold nationally at the retail level.

This toxin cannot be destroyed by regular cooking temperatures. If you purchased this cheese, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed container or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Symptoms of Staphylococcus toxin poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and fever. In severe cases, headache, muscle cramps, and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur. You can see pictures of product labels at the CFIA web site.
