Salmonella Outbreak at Tarheel Q in Lexington NC

Salmonella OutbreakA Salmonella outbreak at the Tarheel Q in Lexington, NC has sickened more than 30 people, according to the Davidson County Health Department. At least seven people have been hospitalized,

All of those sickened, reported that they had eaten at the restaurant, located on Highway 64, several days before becoming ill with symptoms of a Salmonella infection including diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever, nausea, and sometimes vomiting.

“We are still investigating to determine the source (or sources) of infection. We are also actively working with restaurant management to resolve this as soon as possible,” said Davidson County Health Department Director Monecia Thomas. “We would like to thank the restaurant for their cooperation.   The restaurant has been diligent and responsive during this process and we appreciate their commitment to the safety of their customers.”

Health officials are asking anyone who ate at the restaurant on or after June 6th and became ill within four days to contact them, even if they have since recovered. This will help them determine the scope and source of the outbreak. The Davidson County Health Department has set up four hotlines.

The restaurant remains open, but the staff has received instruction about required food temperatures. Customers who brought food home from the restaurant between June 6-19,  should not eat it.
