Summer Fresh Cheese & Crab Dip Recalled in Canada for Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Summer Fresh Salads Inc. are recalling Summer Fresh brand 4 Cheese & Crab Dip from the marketplace because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled product is Summer Fresh 4 Cheese & Crab Dip in 227 gram containers. The code on the product is Best before 2015 OC 30, and the UPC number isĀ 7 73200 70776 4. The dip was sold nationally at the retail level.

If you have this product in your home, do not eat it. Discard in a double bagged or sealed container or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling it. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you have eaten this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include fever, muscle aches, neck stiffness, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, and other flu-like symptoms. Pregnant women may suffer a miscarriage or stillbirth if they contract this infection, even though their illness is mild. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
