Swanson Meats Recalls Beef Tender Tip for Undeclared Soy

Swanson Meats of Minnesota is recalling about 20,063 pounds of beef products for misbranding. The products were formulated with soybean oil, MSG, and papain (a meat tenderizer made from papayas) that were not declared on the label. Soy is a known allergen, and MSG may cause reactions in people who may be sensitive to it.

RecallThe recalled item is 20-pound cases of “Marinated Boneless Beef Tender Tip” with case code “SM04291”. It has the establishment number “Est. 5697” inside the USDA mark of inspection. It was shipped to restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

No confirmed reports of adverse reactions have been received to date, but if you ate beef tips in a restaurant in those areas and have experienced allergic reactions, see your doctor. The problem was discovered by FSIS in-plant personnel during routine inspections.
