Tarheel Q Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 100 from 7 States

At least 100 people from seven states have been sickened in the Salmonella outbreak linked to the Tarheel Q restaurant in Lexington, NC, according to the latest update from the Davie County Health Department. Seven people have been hospitalized and the restaurant has voluntarily closed.

Salmonella OutbreakEveryone who developed symptoms of Salmonella poisoning including diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, nausea and vomiting reported consuming food from the restaurant located on Highway 64 in Lexington, NC, several days before becoming ill.

Health officials have not released the names of the six other states involved in the outbreak, but say most of the cases are in Davidson County. They are encouraging everyone who became ill to contact their health department and mention the possible exposure at the Tarheel.

“We want these people to call the health department even if they have recovered so we can ask them questions related to their food history in hopes of identifying the source of the contamination,” said Monecia Thomas, Director of the Davidson County Health Department.

The restaurant will be closed through June 28th. Customers who purchased take out food from the restaurant from June 6 to June 19 should not eta it.
