Tremenda Sticks Pet Chews Recalled for Possible Salmonella

The Natural Dog Company of Colorado is recalling its Tremenda Sticks pet chews because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Salmonella can sicken  animals and may sicken humans after they handle this potentially contaminated product. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recalled product is 12 ounce bags of 12″ Tremenda Sticks pet food chews. They do not have a lot number or expiration date. The UPC number is 851265004957. Products with new packaging, which includes both a lot number and expiration date but the same UPC number, are not affected by this recall. They were sold in retail stores in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Utah, and Washington state. Production has been suspended while the company and the FDA investigate the problem.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic, with diarrhea that may be bloody, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Some pets an show no symptoms at all but be carriers of the bacteria and can make other animals and people sick. Human symptoms of Salmonella include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that may be bloody, abdominal cramps, and fever.

If you purchased this product, do not feed it to your pet and do not handle it. Discard in a sealed container so other animals can’t get at it, or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product.
