Two Raisin Recalls for Undeclared Sulfites

Two brands of raisins, Shad’s and Basma, are being recalled for undeclared sulfites. People who are sensitive to sulfites could have a serious allergic reaction if they eat these products. Testing by inspectors discovered this problem.

Some people can suffer anaphylactic shock if they eat 100 mg of more of sulfites. The Shad raisins had 38.19 mg per serving. There was no mention of the sulfite content in the Basma recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of either product.

The recall of Shad Raisins is issued by Fatima Brothers. They were sold in uncoded 7 ounce and 14 ounce plastic bags. The raisins were sold in retail stores in New York and New Jersey. If you purchased these raisins and are allergic to or sensitive to sulfites, return them to the place of purchase for a refund or throw them away.

Shad Recalled Raisins

Basma Golden Raisins are being recalled by United TJ of New Jersey. The products were sold in 16 ounce packages and in bulk 30 pound cartons and were distributed in New York and Pennsylvania through retail stores. The 16 ounce product is in a clear plastic package, and the 30 pound product is in a plastic bag in a sole carton box. If you purchased them and are allergic or sensitive to sulfites, throw them away or return to the store where you bought them for a refund.
