Veal Products Recalled for E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

Brown Packing Company of Illinois is recalling an undetermined amount of veal trimmings that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. No confirmed reports of illness have been received to date.

The recalled product is 60 pound boxes of “Dutch Valley Veal”, and various weight generically labeled combo bins of fresh beef veal trimmings. The products have the establishment number “EST. 167” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Lot code numbers printed on product labels range from “4000” through “4313” and “5167” through “5365”.

The veal was produced from February 21, 2014 through July 17, 2015. They were shipped to distributors and retail locations in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, New Jersey and Ohio. In addition, those trimmings may have been co-mingled with other products and portions of those products were shipped to other facilities.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Some of these products could be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

Always cook whole raw meat products (steaks, roasts, liver) to at least 145°F with a three-minute rest time, and 160°F for a ground product to kill dangerous bacteria. The only way to confirm that these products are cooked to a safe temperature is to use a meat thermometer.
