Peeled White Hominy produced by two companies is being recalled in Canada for undeclared sulphites. The two brands names are Phoebe and Mixtura Latina Co. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date.
The recalled products are: Phoebe Mote Blanco/White Corn in 396.9 gram (14 ounce) containers. All codes on the product are recalled. The UPC number is 16712 01525 6. This product may also have been sold in bulk and was shipped in 50 pound packages. If you are not sure if you have purchased the affected product, contact your retailer. It was sold in Ontario and Quebec and possibly nationally.
The other recalled product is Mixtura Latina Company brand name Mote Blanco Pelado/Peeled White Hominy, in 396.4 gram (14 ounce) containers. There are no codes on that product and no UPC numbers. It was sold from Mixtura Latina Company at 1104 Wilson Avenue in Toronto, Ontario.
The recalls were triggered by a recall in another country. More products may be recalled as the CFIA conducts an investigation.
If you purchased either of these products and are allergic to sulphites (sulfites), do not eat it. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
