Whole Foods Recalls Macadamia Nuts for Salmonella

Whole Foods Market is recalling packaged raw macadamia nuts for possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled nuts were sold at stores in AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, KS, LA, NM, NV, OK, TX, and UT. Customers who have purchased these nuts should not eat them.

macadamia-nut-recallSalmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In some cases, when Salmonella infections travel to the bloodstream, more severe illnesses such as arterial infections infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled product was labeled “Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts” and was packaged in 11 oz. plastic tubs with best-by dates of March 19, 2016 through June 21, 2016 and a UPC code of 0-76958-62059-1.

No illnesses were reported at the time of the recall.
