pepper-fpbSome people were hospitalized, according to the reviews, and were diagnosed with Salmonella infections. Most of the reviewers who stated they became ill ate there March 19 and March 20, 2015. There were reviews from eight people complaining about becoming ill during the same time frame.

One person who posted on 3/30/2015 typed, “My two friends and I got sick. I ended up in the ER for several hours, went through two bags of IV for hydration, took pain medication, anti-nausea medication and antibiotics. This is worthy of a Department of Health investigation.” Another person typed “We ate there on March 20 and two of us got salmonella poisoning confirmed by LA County Health Dept.”

There has been no official declaration of an outbreak, and no statement by the restaurant’s owners or managers. According to California’s restaurant inspection records, the restaurant was inspected on 1/30/2015 and on 4/7/2015. During the inspection in January, the restaurant received a score of 92.0. During the inspection in April, the restaurant received a score of 94.0.

Inspections revealed minor violations and no violations, with no rodents, insects, birds, or animals, adequate hand washing facilities, proper hot and cold holding temperatures, and proper cooling methods. We will keep you informed if we learn more.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, and headache. Most people recover on their own without medical treatment. Symptoms usually appear within a few hours to two days after exposure to the bacteria. An outbreak is defined as two or more unrelated people becoming ill with the same strain of bacteria.
