ZYK Enterprises Recalls Veal Products for E. coli O157:H7

ZYK Enterprises of Washington state is recalling 2,522 pounds of boneless veal trim and whole veal muscle cut products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. No reports of illnesses have been received to date.

RecallThe products were produced from January 2 through January 23, 2015. They are: 60 pound bulk boxes of boneless veal trim with a package produced date of January 5, 2015; and 60 pound bulk boxes of boneless veal trim with a package produced date of January 20, 2015. Also recalled are various size bulk boxes ranging from 22 to 63 pounds of boneless veal trim and whole muscle cuts with multiple package dates from January 2-8 through January 23, 2015. They have the establishment number “EST. 9325” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The company did not report positive E. coli O157:H7 test results on January 6, 2015 and January 20, 2015. FSIS personnel reviewed records and discovered this issue following a positive test for E. coli O158:H7 on May 15, 2015.

Products from these lots were shipped for further processing to wholesale establishments in California, Massachusetts,and Washington state. The retail distribution list has not been issued. FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare raw meat products.

The symptoms of an E. coli O157:H7 infection include nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea that is watery and/or bloody, and a slight fever. This can be a serious infection with life-threatening complications, especially hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
