Listeria recall

You can see the long list of recalled items, long with the package sizes and best by dates at the USDA web site. Brand names of the recalled products include Tai Pei, Fred’s, InnovASIAN Cuisine, Trader Joe’s, Simmering Samurai, HyVee, First Street, Daily Chef, Golden Tiger, Jade Mountain, Petite Cuisine, Posada Southwest, The Original Appetizer Company, Taste of Inspirations, archer farms, Casa Solana, and Perkins. The recalled items include firecrackers, empanadas, spring rolls, chicken pot pie empanadas, fried rice, and other products. Please look at that list carefully to see if you have any of these recalled products in your home. You can also see pictures of product labels at the USDA web site.

All of the products have the establishment numbers “EST. 21225,” EST. 9281,” “EST. 1623A,” or “EST. 18356” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped nationwide and to Canada and Mexico. No illnesses have been confirmed relating to the consumption of these recalled items.

If you did purchase any of these items, do not eat them. Throw them away or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any Listeria bacteria.

If you did eat any of these items, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days, because that’s how long it can take for the illness to manifest. Those symptoms include headache, fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If you do develop these symptoms, especially if you are pregnant or in a high risk health group, see your doctor.
