Ajinomoto Windsor Recalls Products for Listeria

Ajinomoto Windsor is recalling some not ready to eat frozen foods because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by this pathogen can take up to 70 days to manifest.

RecallYou can see the long list of recalled products at the FDA web site. All have a use by date of November 5, 2017 or earlier. Some of the brand names included in the recall are Jade Mountain, Petite Cuisine, Perkins, Taste of Inspirations, Archer Farms, Trader Joe’s, Hy Vee, Fred’s, Golden Value, Molly’s Kitchen, and VIP, among others. The products being recalled range from frozen vegetables to chicken fried rice, empanadas, eggroll twists, pepper beef, and jalapeno pops. Please look at the list carefully to see if you have any of these recalled products in your home freezer.

If you did purchase any of these products, do not eat them, even if you are going to cook them first. Throw them away in a sealed container or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your freezer and/or refrigerator, wherever the items were, with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of warm water to kill any bacteria.

If you did eat any of these products, make sure that you monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Most people, however, get sick within three weeks if they are going to get sick. If you experience symptoms of headache, fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, see your doctor and tell him that you ate these recalled products.
