Al Rasheed Sardines Recalled for Possible Botulism

Greenland Trading Company of New Jersey is recalling Al Rasheed Sardines because it may be contamianted with Clostridium botulinum bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Al Rasheed Sardines were shipped to retail stores in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. The product is packaged in a vacuum package with the expiration date 3/2017. The potential for contamination was noted after sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture Sampling and Analysis.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged container or return it to the store where you bought it for a refund. Botulism toxin does not change the taste, smell, look, or texture of food. A tiny amount can cause illness and death. The symptoms of botulism poisoning include general weakness, dizziness, double vision, trouble swallowing, and difficulty speaking. Difficulty breathing, weakness of other muscles, and abdominal distension can be other symptoms. If you do get sick, see your doctor immediately.
