Bar-S Foods Recalls Hot Dogs & Corn Dogs for Possible Listeria

Bar-S Foods of Oklahoma is recalling 372,684 pounds of chicken and pork hot dog and corn dog products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

Listeria Recall

The recalled products were produced on July 10, 11, 12, and 13 of 2016. They include 16 ounce/1 pound packages of “BAR-S Classic BUN LENGTH Franks MADE WITH CHICKEN, PORK ADDED” with “Use By” date of 10/11/2016 and case code 209; 12 ounce packages of “BAR-S CLASSIC Franks MADE WITH CHICKEN, PORK ADDED” with package code 6338, “Use By” date of 10/10/2016 and case code 6405; and 24 ounce/1.5 pound cartons of “SIGNATURE Pick 5 CORNDOGS – 8 Honey Batter Dipped Franks On A Stick” with a “Use By” date of 4/6/2017 and case code 6071.

Also recalled are 42.72 ounce/2.67 pound cartons of “BAR-S CLASSIC CORN DOGS – 16 Honey Batter Dipped Franks On A Stick” with “Use By” dates of 4/7/2017 and 4/8/2017 and case code 6396; and 48 ounce/3 pound cartons of “BAR-S CLASSIC CORN DOGS – 16 Honey Batter Dipped Franks On A Stick” with package code 14054, “Use By” dates of 4/6/2017 and 4/9/2017, and case code 14038. You can see pictures of product labels at the USDA web site.

The products have the establishment number “EST. P-81A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide. The firm has not received test results for Listeria in its products, but has recurring Listeria species issues at the firm and is removing the products as a precautionary measure.

If you purchased any of the above products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria.

If you ate any of these recalled products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, flu-like symptoms, confusion, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
