Canadian Recall of Pork Products for E. coli O157:H7 Updated

The recall of pork products in Canada for possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination has been updated to include more stores were the products may have been sold. Hillview Meat Processor is recalling raw pork and pork organ products because they may be contaminated with the pathogenic bacteria. These products were sold in Alberta.

Recall NoticesThe stores where the products may have been sold previously only included those in Calgary, Alberta, but they were also possibly sold in Acme, Alberta and Crossfield, Alberta. The stores that may have carried the products include ACME Meats at 127 Main Street in Acme, Alberta; Crossfield Meats Ltd. at 1017 B Nanton Avenue in Crossfield, Alberta; QC & C Meat Shop Ltd. at 5320 17 Avenue SE in Calgary; and Paolini’s Sausage & Meat (Crossroads Market) at 1235 26 Avenue SE in Calgary. You can see the other stores previously listed as part of this recall at the CFIA web site.

The raw pork and pork organ products may have been transformed into raw muscle meat cuts (such as pork chops or pork loin roast), ground pork, sausages, and raw ready-to-eat products. They may have been sold fresh or frozen, and may have been sold prepackaged or clerk-served, with or without a label. If you aren’t sure whether or not you have purchased any of the recalled products, call your retailer and ask.

The CFIA says that “here have been no illnesses definitively linked to the consumption of these products.” If you purchased any pork products from these stores, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat them, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
