Chappaqua Crunch Granola Recalled for Salmonella

granola-salmonella-recallWBY Foods of Marblehead, Mass., is recalling its Chappaqua Crunch Simply Granola with Blueberries & Bananas because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it as Salmonella can cause serious illness.

The recalled product was sold in 13 ounce pounces in retail stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida in retail stores and through mail order.

They were packaged in 13-ounce, clear plastic pouches marked with best by dates on the back. The recall includes best by dates from February 5, 2016 through May 31, 2016. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Salmonella infection causes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually appear six to seventy-two hours after exposure and last up to a week. Those at highest risk to contract a Salmonella infection and develop severe complications from it include young children, seniors, those with compromised immune systems, and those who suffer from chronic illness. In some cases, the infection can travel to the bloodstream producing more severe illnesses such as infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis.

The problem was discovered after the banana supplier reported that the bananas may be contaminated.
