Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Expands Recall for Listeria

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream is expanding its recall of products that contain chocolate chip cookie dough pieces purchased from another supplier, Aspen Hills, for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recall includes these products: Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. 3 Gallon Cartons; Cookie Dough (code date 10/15/17, 10/21/17, 11/1/17 & 11/8/17); Heaps of Love (code date 10/20/17, 10/28/17 & 11/8/17); Peanut Butter Cookie Dough (code date 10/9/17, 10/18/17 & 11/1/17); Sticks & Stones (code date 10/26/17); Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. Pints; Cookie Dough (code date 10/21/17); The Baked Bear brand 3 Gallon Cartons; and The Baked Bear brand Cookie Dough (code date 10/13/17, 10/15/17, 10/21/17). They were sold in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. The ice cream was sold in ice cream shops, online outlets and limited grocery stores.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund. Clean out your freezer with a mild bleach solution since freezing doesn’t kill this bacteria. And if you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, which include flu-like symptoms, for the next 70 days. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
