Comeaux’s Inc. of Breaux Bridge, La. is recalling approximately 14 pounds of pork products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. The smoked pork tasso was packaged on Dec. 22, 2015.
Although no illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall, consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness or death.
The recalled products were sold in 1-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing diced “CAJUN HICKORY SMOKED PORK TASSO.” The code “EST. 20513” appears inside the USDA mark of inspection and package code number is “42358”. They were shipped to retail locations in Louisiana.
The problem was discovered during routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Adminiatration’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS).
Eating foods contaminated with Listeria can cause an infection called listeriosis. Symptoms of an infection include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Sometimes those symptoms are preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
Consumers who have purchased these products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
