C&W Peas Recalled for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes

Pinnacle Foods is recalling a limited number of C&W Early Harvest Petite Peas and C&W Petite Peas because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. the products were recalled after the contact packer, National Frozen Foods, notified the company about this issue. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by this bacteria, listeriosis, can take up to 70 days to appear.

Listeria Recall

These products were distributed nationally and online. They include C&W Early Harvest Petite Peas, with UPC number 0-70332-00159-4 in 16 ounce bags. The “Best by” codes are Mar-07-18, Mar-17-18, Mar-28-18, and Mar-29-18. Also recalled are C&W Petite Peas in 16 ounce bags, with UPC number 0-70332-00158-7. The “Best by” codes for that products are Mar-23-18, Mar-28-19, and Mar-29-18.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat them, or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Freezing does not kill Listeria monocytogenes, and it can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the next 70 days for the symptoms of listeriosis. Those symptoms include high fever, flu-like symptoms, stiff neck, severe headache, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you do get sick, especially if you are pregnant, elderly, or have a chronic illness or suppressed immune system, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
