Dr. Praeger’s Black Bean Veggie Burgers Recalled for Listeria

Altra Foods is recalling Dr. Praeger’s brand Black Bean Veggie Burgers in Canada because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product in Canada, but there are illnesses in the U.S. linked to consuming products manufactured or processed by CRF Frozen Foods.

Dr. Praeger Veggie Burgers Recall

The recalled product was sold in Ontario and Quebec. It is Dr. Praeger’s Black Bean Veggie Burgers in 283 gram packages. The code on the product is Best if Used By: 01/27/2018 and the UPC number isĀ 0 80868 06019 4.

Check to see if you have this product in your freezer. If you do, do not eat it, even if you cook it first; throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands carefully with soap and water after handling this product.

Then clean out your freezer or refrigerator with a solution of one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to one gallon of warm water. Listeria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing does not kill it.

If you ate any of this recalled products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this pathogenic bacteria, for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pains, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, see your doctor as soon as possible.
