Dr. Praeger’s, Trader Joe’s Veggie Burgers Recalled for Listeria

Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods is recalling some not ready to eat frozen food items because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The products contain vegetables that are part of CRF Foods recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products, although there is a Listeria outbreak linked to CRF Frozen Foods products.

Recall

You can see the long list of recalled products, along with the brand names, item number, case lot, retail lot, best by date, and Case and Retail Unit UPC numbers at the FDA web site. Please look at the list carefully. The brand names of the recalled products include Dr. Praeger’s, Season’s Choice, Simply Nature, Trader Joe’s, and Ungar’s. The recalled products include veggie burgers, veggie balls, black bean burgers, and veggie burger sliders. Both retail and foodservice products are included in the recall.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them, even if you cook them before. Return the products to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange, or throw them away in a sealed container. Then wash your freezer or refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing does not kill it.

If you ate any of these recalled products, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, neck stiffness, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and muscle aches. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirth if they contract listeriosis, even though their illness is mild. If you do get sick, please see your doctor and tell him you ate these recalled products.
