Earnest Eats Dark Chocolate Almond Bars Recalled for Listeria

Earnest Eats 0f Solana Beach, CA has issued a recall for Earnest Eats Dark Chocolate Almond Bars that may be contaminated with Listeria. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness and death.

The recalled products, which weigh 6.2 oz, have the following UPC numbers: individual: 891048001636;  891048001667 (5-ct carton); 891048001674 (12-ct master corrugated case) all with Best Before Dates 29APR17. They were sold nationwide online and to retail stores between March 1 and June 17, 2016,

This recall was issued after the company was notified by its sunflower seed supplier, SunOpta, that some sunflower kernels used to make the product may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as 70 days to develop and include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Among pregnant women, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
