G & M Bulk Beef Cuts and Trimmings Recalled for E. coli

E.-coli microscopeG & M Co. of Newark, NJ is recalling approximately 3,586 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Retailers in NJ and NY who received these products should not use or sell them as E. coli can cause serious illness and death.

The bulk beef cuts and trimmings items were produced on June 8, 9, and 10, 2016. And packed in box sizes ranging from 30-195 lb. containing plastic wrapped bulk beef cuts and trimmings marked only with plant identifier “M5476.”

At the time of the recall there had been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. However, E. coli O157:H7 can cause serious illness and death.

Symptoms usually develop within one to three days of exposure and last about a week. They include dehydration, diarrhea that can be bloody and abdominal cramps. A small number of people with E. coli infections develop a serious complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This condition is most common in children under 5 and older adults. Symptoms include easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urine output. Anyone with these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.
