General Mills Recalls Beyond Meat Curry for Possible Listeria

General Mills is recalling a limited quantity of its frozen Beyond Meat Vegetarian Indian Curry that was made over seven days in April 2016 for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This product was sold exclusively at Whole Foods. Frozen peas in the product were recalled for possible contamination.

Listeria Recall

Beyond Chicken is part of the Beyond Meat line of plant-based proteins marketed as a substitute for chicken. The only product recalled is Beyond Meat Vegetarian Indian Curry with Beyond Chicken. The product has “Better Used By” dates including 10NOV2016 NL, 12NOV2016 NL, 15NOV2016 NL, 16NOV2016 NL, 20NOV2016 NL, 24NOV2016 NL, and 25NOV2016 NL. No reports of consumer illness have been received to date.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged package so other people can’t eat it, or return it to the store where you bought it for a refund. Then clean out your freezer or refrigerator, wherever you stored the product, with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing does not kill it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.

If you ate any of this recall product, even if you heated it before consuming, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you do experience any of these symptoms, particularly if you are pregnant or have a chronic illness, see your doctor.
