Giant, Martin’s, Schuncks Recall PictSweet Steamables for Listeria

PictSweet Steamable Vegetables sold at Giant, Martin’s, Schnucks, and other stores are under recall for potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them.

Recall SignThe recalled products, as listed on the Schnucks web site, include Pictsweet Steamable Seasoned Summer Vegetables, sold in 10 ounce packages with the UPC 7056097826 and a best by date of 03/19/2018. Also recalled is Pictsweet Seasoning Blend in 12 ounce packages with the UPC number 7056096902 and a best by date of 4/2/2018.

In a confusing development, Giants/Martins has stated that the recalled Seasoned Summer Vegetables has the UPC number of 7056098001 with a best by date of 03/28/18. Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious, sometimes fatal infection. Those most at risk are children, seniors, people with compromised immune systems and pregnant women.  Among pregnant women, Listeria infections can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and infection in newborns even though the woman is only mildly ill.

Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, and neck stiffness, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms.  Symptoms can take as long as 70 days to develop.

Consumers who have purchased these products can return them for a refund. Do not eat this product, even if you intend to cook it. Clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution after the product has been removed to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.
