Great Grains Protein Blend Recalled for Possible Listeria

Post Consumer Brands is recalling some of its Great Grains Protein Blend – Honey, Oats & Seeds cereal because it contains sunflower seeds that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The sunflower seeds came from SunOpta, which has issued several recalls. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis can take up to 70 days to appear.

these “best when used by” codes of the product are recalled: AUG1416, AUG1516, AUG1616, AUG1716, NOV0916, NOV1016, NOV1116, NOV1216, FEB1817, and FEB1917. The products were distributed to customers throughout the country and sold through retail stores nationwide.

If you purchased this product with any of those code dates, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container or return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Then clean out your pantry or cupboards with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Wash your hands after handling this product.

If you ate any of this recalled product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms are flu-like, and include stiff neck, severe headache, neck stiffness, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal pains, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, especially if you are pregnant, elderly, or have a compromised immune system or chronic illness, see your doctor.
