H. Van Wijnen Smoked Salmon Recalled for Possible Botulism

A & E Distribution is recalling H. Van Wijnen brand Smoked Atlantic Salmon Filet in Canada because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria if sold refrigerated. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. It was sold in New Brunswick, Quebec, and possibly nationally at the retail level. This is an update of the Fjord Laks fish products recall earlier this month.

The recalled product is H. Van Wijnen brand Smoked Atlantic Salmon Filet Royal in 170 gram packages. All “best before” dates up to and including July 29, 2016 are recalled. The UPC numbers on the product are variable.

Food contaminated with the botulism toxin will not look, smell, or taste different from food that is safe to eat. The symptoms of botulism poisoning include dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container or return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
