Haring Catfish Recalled for Possible Adulteration of Gentian Violet

Haring Catfish is recalling 21,521 pounds of siluriformes fish (catfish) products that may be adulterated with gentian (crystal) violet. This recall is being reissued to edit product descriptions. Gentian violet is an antiseptic dye that is used as an animal drug to treat diseases. The chemical has carcinogenic and mutagenic properties in rodents.

Important Notice Recall

The catfish products were produced on June 28 and 29, 2016. The recalled products are 11 pound cardboard boxes of ice packed “catfish” tails in plastic wrapping. They are identified as “Haring Catfish” with Lot Code 2140. Also recalled are 15 pound cardboard boxes of IQF “catfish” steaks, filets, irregular filets, whole fish, strips, and nuggets in plastic wrapping with Lot Code 2140. Finally, 30 pound cardboard boxes of ice packed “catfish” steaks, filets, irregular filets, whole fish, strips, nuggets, and gutted fish in plastic wrapping are recalled, also with Lot Code 2140. These products have the establishment number “EST. 51217” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations, hotels, restaurants, and institutions in Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
