Hickory Harvest Sunflower Seed, Trail Mix Recall Expands, Again

Hickory Harvest Foods has expanded its recall of sunflower kernels and trail mix after its sunflower seed supplier, SunOpta, is expanded its recall for Listeria concerns. Click the preceding link to see product details.

At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported. However, consumers who who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness or death.

Symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as 70 days to develop. They include high fever, severe headache, muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, that can be bloody. Those most at risk of infection are children, seniors, those with weakened immune systems and pregnant women among whom the infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The products recalled in addition to those recalled on May 4 and May 20, were packaged at, or distributed from Hickory Harvest between the dates of June 22,2015 and May 31,2016 and shipped to the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, lA, 10, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, Ml, MO, MS, MT, NC, NO, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SO, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, and WY.
