Hy-Vee Trail Mix Recalled for Listeria

Recall chalkboardHy-Vee, Inc. of West Des Moines, Iowa, is recalling six trail mix products that may be contaminated with Listeria. The recalled products were sold at Hy-Vee stores in the eight states where it does business. Consumers who have purchased them should not eat them.

The products include Hy-Vee Caramel Cashew Honey Crunch Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Dark Chocolate Cranberry Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix To Go, Hy-Vee Berry Trail Mix and Hy-Vee Santa Fe Trail Mix. For details about the recalled products click the link above.

Listeria can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections. Those most at risk are young children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms, which can take 70 days to develop,  include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Among pregnant women, Listeria infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

The recalled was issued after SunOpta expanded its sunflower kernel recall.

At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported in association with the products, the company said.
