In Canada, Del Monte, Sysco Cantaloupe Recalled for Salmonella

CantaloupeIn Canada, Del Monte and Sysco brand cantaloupes are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers who have purchased these melons should not eat them as Salmonella can cause serious illness.

The recalled Del Monte individual cantaloupes were sold up to and including February 18, 2016 have the PLU 4050, 12-count cases had the lot number 360012 . The Sysco Imperial Fresh Cantaloupe was distributed in 3 count boxes with the Lot  number 127 12 035 5. They were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba. They may have been distributed nationally.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea that can be bloody usually appear six to seventy-two hours after infection and last up to a week. Those at highest risk to contract a Salmonella infection and develop severe complications from it include young children, seniors, those with compromised immune systems, and those who suffer from chronic illness
