International Foodservice Recalls Pistachios for Salmonella

pistachio-recallInternational Foodsource is recalling pistachios for possible Salmonella contamination. They were sold in bags ab in bulk and distributed to food service and retail stores nationally.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of an infection include fever, diarrhea which may be bloody, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In some cases,  Salmonella infections can travel to the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses such as infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis.The recalled products include: Bulk Raw Whole Pistachio 80% VP with lot number 76114 (Sam International Lot# 102914) and best by date 4/29/16;
Valued Naturals Raw Pistachio Kernels sold in 5 oz Bags with lot umber 79249, best by date 08/10/16  and UPC 790429241428; IFS Club Bag Pistachio Raw Shelled 80% Wholes  in 3 lb bags with lot number 78634 3, best by date 7/16/16 and UPC 790429243026; and IFS Web Bulk Pistachio – Shelled 80% Whole  with lot number 78998, best by date 07/30/16 and UPC 790429239630.

At the time of the recall no illnesses had been reported in connection with this product. The problem was discovered by FDA product testing.
