Jalapeños Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

According to the FDA’s weekly Enforcement Report for the week of January 20, 2016, Picosito Jalapeños distributed by Sweet Superior Fruit are being recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. More than a thousand cases of the produce are being recalled. They were distributed in Texas and Illinois.

JalapeñosThe jalapeños are a product of Mexico. The code on the product is LOT ORTI04. The recall date is 12-11-2015, so much of the produce may have already been consumed. But people may have used it to make salsa or sauces. And these recipes are not cooked, which means there is no kill step to destroy any bacteria that may be present. Freezing will not kill Salmonella bacteria if you froze any of these peppers, so don’t believe that they are safe.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged container, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
