Living Tree Macadamia Nut Products Recalled for Salmonella

Living Tree Community Foods of Berkeley, California is recalling Organic Macadamia Nuts and Organic Macadamia Butter because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have  been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

The products were distributed throughout the U.S. via retail stores in California and Connecticut, and to mail order customers. The recalled products are Living Tree Community Foods Organic Macadamia Nuts in a 4 ounce, clear plastic pouch marked with lot #153442 on the top. The Living Tree Community Foods Alive, Organic Macadamia Butter that is also recalled comes in an 8 ounce glass jar, with a Living Tree Community Foods label. Lots numbers for that product are 134415, 136215, and 101716, and the UPC number is 641432000987. The items shipped between 12/11/2015 and 2/03/2016.

FDA testing conducted with the company’s supplier, Mahina Mele, based in Hawaii, revealed the presence of Salmonella in organic macadamia nuts. Production of the product has been suspended.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged container or return to the place of purchase for a full refund.
