MaraNatha Sunflower Butter Listeria Recall

MaraNatha All Natural Sunflower Seed Butter is being recalled for possible Listeria contamination. Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it as Listeria can cause serious illness.

The recall was prompted by the expansion of a recall by the company’s sunflower seed supplier SunOpta. At the time of the recall, no illnesses had been reported.

The recalled product was sold in 12 oz. jars with the UPC 0 51651-09367 5 and the best by date range 28JUL16 thru 05DEC16.  The products were distributed from September 25, 2015 thru April 18, 2016.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
