Meat Pies Recalled for Lack of Inspection, Misbranding

Solomon Snacks and Bakery of Minnesota is recalling 873 pounds of meat pie products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, and for misbranding and undeclared allergens. The pies contain eggs, milk, and wheat, three of the major food allergens, that are not declared on the label. Anyone who is allergic to those ingredients, or who has lactose intolerance or celiac disease, could have a serious reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date.

the bef, chicken, and turkey meat pies were produced on dates from February 2016 to May 2016. They include 5 ounce package of “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Beef,” 5 ounce package of “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Chicken,” and 5 ounce package of “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Turkey.” They are also recalling unlabeled styrofoam boxes lined with wax paper containing 5 ounce frozen meat pie products. These products do not have the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Minnesota and Illinois. The products distributed in Illinois were in the styrofoam boxes without any labels. You can see labels of the recalled products at the USDA web site.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them even if you are not allergic to milk, wheat, and/or eggs because they were not inspected. Return them to the store where you bought them or throw them away.
