Mt Kisco Smokehouse Recalls Smoked Salmon for Listeria

Mt. Kisco Smokehouse of New York is voluntarily recalling two types of smoked salmon because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear. An FDA inspection revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in floor drains and cracks in the floor in the company’s facility.

The recalled products are Atlantic Smoked Salmon Whole lot # 13723516 USE BY 09 12 16 and lot # 1215316 USE BY 9 30 16. Also recalled is Sliced – Smoked Atlantic Salmon in an 8 ounce (225.89 gram) package. The lot numbers and use by dates for that product are lot # 12125116 USE BY 09 28 16, lot # 12125216 USE BY 09 29 16, lot # 11325716 USE BY 10 03 16, and lot # 11325816 USDE BY 10 05 16. The salmon was sold in New York and Connecticut through retail stores and restaurants between 9/6/2016 and 9/16/2016. The whole product is packed in an unlabeled paper box and delivered to restaurants. The sliced product is sold in a clear plastic package and labeled on the back with lot numbers and use by date.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container so other animals and people can’t get at it, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Wash your hands after handling the product.

If you ate this product, or ate smoked salmon in a restaurant in those states on those dates, monitor yourself for Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. You can call the restaurant and see if they carried the recalled product.

Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage and stillbirth if they contract this illness, even though their illness is very mild and like the flu. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled product.
